January 19, 2019KUALA LUMPUR (18 January 2019): National women’s number one, Goh Jin Wei has finally come of age on the international stage as the world begins to take notice of her giant-killing exploits at the Perodua Malaysia Masters 2019 (PMM 2019) held at the Axiata Arena, KL Sports City, Bukit Jalil today.Her latest victim, fifth seed and world number seven, He Bingjiao from China, who was put to the sword in 21-15, 21-16 minutes in the quarter finals to seal a place in the last four of her home tournament.
Previously, the world number 28 ousted third seed and world number five, Akane Yamaguchi from Japan in the first round before dispatching Zhang Yiman from China in the second round.
When met after the match, Jin Wei said: “As the underdog, I kept putting pressure on the opponent so that she will kill the shuttle early.
“I am lucky to qualify for the final. I am grateful to have the support of the fans who really helped me,” added the world junior champion.
The 18 year old from Bukit Mertajam equalled her previous best last year in the Korea Masters in December and will be hoping to go one better in reaching her first final in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour.
But it won’t be easy as awaiting her is defending champion and sixth seed, Ratchanok Intanon who also performed her giant killing act, eliminating world number one, Tai Tzu Ying from Taiwan, 21-13, 21-14.
“I am not thinking of our previous meeting at last year’s tournament where I managed to steal one set. Anyway, she is a former world champion, I can learn a lot from her,” she added.
It was a great day for Malaysia as the hosts managed to place representatives in all events bar the women’s doubles.
Besides Jin Wei, men’s doubles pairs, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Ong Yew Sin- Teo Ee Yi, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (mixed doubles) and Liew Daren (men’s singles) also booked their places in the last four.
Malaysia are guaranteed a place in the final of the men’s doubles when Aaron-Soh are scheduled to meet Yew Sin-Ee Yi tomorrow.
Professional pair and Thailand Masters champion, V Shem-Wee Kiong face the daunting task of ousting world number one, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo from Indonesia.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying who were also crowned champions in Thailand last Sunday, will face first seeds, Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino from Japan.
Daren, who created a sensational upset when he eliminated world number two, Shi Yuqi today, will aim to continue his great run when he meets fourth seed, Son Wan Ho from South Korea.

Tickets are priced at between RM18 and RM75 depending on the seating (upper, lower and premium). Children from between four years and 18 years can enjoy discounts of up to 50% till the quarter- finals (Premium and Lower Tier) and discounts up to the final (for Upper Tier).

With the status of BWF World Tour Super 500, Perodua Malaysia Masters 2019 offers a total cash prize of US$350,000.
