The CEO
Christopher Raj holds firm to the maxim Hard Work Beats Talent and practices this with firm conviction.
“Talent is great – it gets you off the starting block; it’s that X-factor, a wildcard that can be used as an edge to succeed. But talent is nothing without hard work. Hard work is the distinguishing factor – the energy that fuels our skills, ambitions, desires, and talents to break new barriers and excel further”.
Christopher Raj, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ShekhinahPR has almost three decades of experience in Public Relations and Integrated Marketing Communications – an experience that gives him a unique perspective and clout as both an industry leader and influential voice in the industry.
Christopher’s foray into the industry was as a PR Executive, but before long he took on the career defining role as Media Officer with the Football Association of Malaysia. His swift rise in the industry followed as he navigated roles with the ASEAN Football Federation, Asian Football Confederation, 1997 FIFA World Youth Championships and his involvement in the 1998 Commonwealth Games almost concurrently. A consummate professional, in order to gain a deeper 360-degree perspective of the various facets of the industry, a decade on in 2007 Christopher hung up his PR hat and picked up the proverbial quill when he joined New Straits Times as a sports journalist covering a spectrum of major sports and news events.
Soon after, this broadened perspective and a hunger to merge passion and purpose led to the inception of ShekhinahPR in 2011 – the opening chapter in a homegrown brand that would emerge to become a leading Sports PR and Media agency in South East Asia.
Most recently, Christopher served as an Executive Committee Member (EXCO) with the FA of Malaysia and by appointment by FAM President HRH Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, he is currently into his second term as the Chairman of the Media and Public Relations Committee and Deputy Chairman of Marketing Committee, in addition to National U17 Team manager and Deputy Chairman of Affiliate Development & Relations Committee.
In addition to his almost three decades in the industry, Christopher holds a Diploma in Public Relations from the Institute of Public Relations of Malaysia, Diploma in Public Relations (International Correspondence School, UK), Certificate in Corporate Communication & PR, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Ballarat, Australia. As a leader, Chris has always seen it as his responsibility to be “very clear on the vision and values of the business,” and to be both “consistent and disciplined in making sure these are clearly communicated and enforced,” so that the entire ShekhinahPR team are aiming for the same end goal as well.
