April 20, 2017Kuala Lumpur (18 April, 2017): Bukit Jalil Sports School Thunderbolt stumped defending champions Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts 6-5 in penalty shootout in the TNB- Malaysian Junior Hockey League Division One match in Bandar Penawar today.
The two TNB Thunderbolt teams, playing in only their second game of the 2017 MJHL, drew 2-2 in regulation time. BJSS Thunderbolt led 2-1 with goals from Muhammad Ramdan Arifin (38th, penalty corner) and Faiq Razin Zariq Idris (58th, field goal) after Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook gave the host the lead in the 22nd via open play.
SSTMI prodded on in search of the equaliser and were rewarded when Akhimullah netted his second goal from open play with just a minute remaining to the hooter to force a shootout.
At the Ministry of Education Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Politeknik Malaysia-KPT downed BJSS Juniors 4-3 in penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. Politeknik Malaysia, who lost 1-4 to SSTMI Thunderbolt in Malacca two days ago, clawed back to equalise through Mohamad Sufian Marsom in the 50th minute via penalty corner after Zarreman Shamier Sulaiman shot BJSS Juniors into the lead in the 20th minute from open play.
“We gave away too many penalty corners to BJSS Juniors due to our mistakes in the semi-circle. There was no pressure but the defenders came from the wrong side to tackle that resulted in our own folly,” said Politeknik Malaysia-KPT head coach Auio Dean Sophi.
“Since this is also our second match in the league I hope they learn from the mistakes today before our next game against UniKL Young Guns on Sunday,” he added. “I just want them to see where they went wrong and show improvement in our remaining fixtures.”
Meanwhile, the Anderson Thunderbolt and Pahang Sports School Thunderbolt match at SMK Gunong Rapat was abandoned today after seven minutes of play due to heavy rain. Anderson led 1-0 in the fourth minute through Muhammad Najme Ahmad Hayazi field goal.
In Division Two, Sabah Sports School Malaysia defeated MSSWP Kuala Lumpur 4-2 in a Group B encounter at the Likas Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu. Kuala Lumpur led 2-0 with first half goals from Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel Suzaini (7th minute) and Muhammad Azreen Mustamad (22nd).
The second half, however, went to Sabah Sports School Malaysia’s way following a four-goal blitz within a space of 20 minutes. Nasrul Syahkir Sadikul scored a double (38st and 47th minutes) whilst Muhajir Abdu Rauf (31st minute) and Muhammad Zulhilmi Barkary (51st) netted a piece.
Sabah Sports School Malaysia lead Group B table standings with 15 points – six clear of Terengganu Junior Team and nine points lead over third-placed Felda Juniors.
