KUALA LUMPUR (15 JULY 2019): Defending champions, SSTMI Thunderbolts didn’t have it all their own way after edging out ‘cousins’ Anderson Thunderbolts, 4-3 in the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) at SSTMI stadium yesterday.SSTMI who have been imperious this season, winning all their matches with a big margin, fell behind to a field goal by Mohamad Syazwan Syafiq Basir in the ninth minute.
The home team equalized two minutes later also through a field goal by Faizmizam Ann Rosly and went in front through a field goal by Mohamad Shamir Rizmi Mohd Shamsul in the 17th minute.
Skipper, Muhammad Amirul Hamizan Azahar extended SSTMI’s lead through a field goal in the 32nd minute but Anderson’s captain, Muhammad Fahmi Khalid pegged them by converting a penalty corner in the 35th minute.
Mohamad Syazwan Syafiq Basir thought he had salvaged a point for the away side when he scored in the 44th minute but Muhammad Amirul had other plans, stealing the win at the death, converting a last minute penalty corner to maintain their 100% record.
BJSS Thunderbolts traded places with AHP-MSSP Thunderbolts with BJSS now in second after a 5-1 win in a match up between the two teams.
SSTMI are now in the driving seat, having won all their 11 matches on the trot, collecting 33 points and boasting a +57 goal difference compared to +19 by BJSS who have 26 points. They are the leading goal scorers with a whopping 71 goals with only 14 conceded.
AHP-MSSP are two points behind BJSS with a +17 goal difference after being in second spot for so long.
Rounding off the fixtures, MBPJ Tigers won 3-1 over SSTMI Juniors, MSSPP-PSHA edged out MSN/SSN/ PHPs Young Lion 2-1, MSNT-PHT-MSST drew 1-1 with BJSS Juniors 2022 and SSMS Resilient drew 1-1 SMKDBL-UNIKL-PHJ MSNJ.
Meanwhile, in the women’s section, MBPJ Black Widow continued on their dominant run, winning 7-1 over Johor Girl-PHJ-MSNJ in their away match to rack up 16 points.
SSTMI-PKS-UNITEN took over second place, trailing one point after winning 1-0 over SSMS Girls.
The other fixtures saw SSP-MSP PKS UNITEN winning 2-1 over MSNT-PHT-MSST while Zaba Girls were at the end of a 0-13 trashing at the hands of KL Wipers-KLSS.
