June 30, 2019KUALA LUMPUR (28 JUNE 2019): The women’s Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) opened with a bang as SSTMI -PKS Uniten got off to a flyer with a 13-0 thrashing of Zaba Girls at the SSTMI stadium yesterday.
Buoyed by the impressive performance of the national women’s team, the Malaysian Tigress who finished third at the recent FIH Series Finals in Ireland, SSTMI-PKS Uniten showed they have the players waiting in the wings to take over their senior counterparts, led by Nor Shafiqha Ishak.
Nor Shafiqha was in her element netting a hattrick, with three field attempts in the 26th, 44th and 47th minute.
The remaining 10 goals were contributed by Nur Syaza Afiqah Safawi (2), Putri Nurbatrisyia Nor Nawawi (2), Nur Hafizah Maznan, Wan Norfatihah Mohd Saiuti, Nur Insyirah Effarizal, Nur Fatin Dizana Mohd Zaidi, Khairunnisa Ayuni Mohd Shahrudin and Nur Arisha Muhammad Asrul Effandi.
The other fixtures saw MBPJ Black Widow win 3-1 against SSMS Girls, SSP-MSP PKS Uniten trouncing Johor Girl-PHJ MSNJ 4-0 and Mutiara Impian-MSSPP-PSHA overcoming MSNT-PHT-MSST in a nine goal thriller with a score of 6-3.
In the men’s section, defending champions, SSTMI Thunderbolts consolidated their position at the top with a 4-2 win over MBPJ Tigers at the KLHA stadium.
Substitute, Che Nur Aqirullah Che Mohd Khirulzi Anwar who was introduced in the 7th minute, did the trick when he opened the scoring a minute later through a field goal.
Mohd Shamir Rizmi Mohd Shamsul doubled the lead in the 15th minute also from a field attempt before Muhammad Zulfitri Md Zin reduced the arrears two minutes after the restart from a penalty corner.
Muhammad Abid Sufian Mat Ruslee then regained SSTMI Thunderbolt’s two goal advantage from a field goal in the 22nd minute.
Muhamad Alif Salehin provided hope for MBPJ Tigers when he managed to score in the 42nd minute but Muhammad Muhibbuddin Moharam extinguished all hopes of an MBPJ Tigers comeback when he put the final nail in the coffin, seven minutes from time.
With this win, SSTMI Thunderbolts have strengthened their position at the top with 12 points after four matches followed by AHP-MSP Thunderbolts in second after handing out a seven goal thrashing of MSN/SSN/ PHPs YOUNG LION.
This big margin of victory was not enough to dislodge SSTMI Thunderbolts with SSTMI having a healthy goal difference of +16 compared to +13 by AHP-MSP.
BJSS Thunderbolts followed suit in third place after thrashing SSTMI Juniors 5-1 while Anderson completed a 1-2-3-4 domination of Tenaga Nasional Berhad powered Thunderbolts with a 2-2 draw against SMKDBL–UNIKL-PHJ-MSNJ.
Rounding off the fixtures, KL-Wipers drew 3-3 with SSMS Resilient, Sabah JR (SSMS-SHA/PHS) winning 2-1 BJSS Juniors 2022 and MSSPP – PSHA the end of a 2-7 loss at the hands of MSNT-PHT-MSST.
