July 4, 2019KUALA LUMPUR (30 JUNE 2019): Table toppers, SSTMI Thunderbolts survived a late onslaught by SMKDBL-UNIKL-PHJ MSNJ before winning 4-3 at SMKDBL yesterday on matchweek 5 of the TNB Malaysian Junior Hockey League (TNBMJHL) 2019.
Skipper, Muhammad Kamarulzaman bin Kamaruddin’s penalty corner conversion four minutes from time created jitters in the SSTMI Thunderbolts camp but was not enough to deny the defending champions a fifth victory in a row.
Muhammad Aizat Fadzli Mohamad Farid threatened to upset the formbook when he put the home side in front as early as the fifth minute from a penalty conversion.
Muhammad Nazrim Muslim extended SMKDBL’s lead nine minutes later through a field goal but SSTMI increased the pressure and halved the deficit through Muhamad Faris Harizan’s field goal in the 20th minute.
Then they turned on the style and added three more goals from a penalty corner by Mohamad Shamir Rizmi Mohd Shamsul in the 37th minute, another penalty corner by Muhammad Hafiz Mohd Zauri@Mohd Zahari (m-40) and a field goal by Muhajir Abdul Rauf in the 50th minute.
With this win, SSTMI Thunderbolts are still on course of regaining the title after collecting 15 points from five matches followed by AHP-MSP Thunderbolts in second after edging out Sabah Jr (SSMS-SHA/PHS) 4-2.
SSTMI are now only separated by a +2 goal difference with SSTMI having a +17 compared to +15 by AHP-MSP.
Following suit are Anderson Thunderbolts who took over third spot from BJSS Thunderbolts after handing out a 7-0 thrashing of BJSS Juniors 2022. MBPJ Tigers are now in fourth after winning 4-2 against KL Wipers.
BJSS Thunderbolts now sit in fifth after they only managed a 2-2 draw with MSNT-PHT-MSST.
Rounding off the fixtures, MSSPP-PSHA were on the end of a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of SSMS Resilient as SSTMI Juniors defeated MSN/SSN/ PHPs Young Lion 4-2.
Meanwhile, in the women’s section, Zaba Girls were at the end of another thrashing, this time 8-0 at the hands of SSP-MSP PKS Uniten.
Last Friday, the opening day, Zaba Girls were the victims of a 13-0 mauling by SSTMI -PKS Uniten.
The other fixtures today saw MBPJ Black Widow win 2-1 against KL Wiper-KLSS and MSNT-PHT-MSST emerging victorious, 2-0 against Johor Girl-PHJ MSNJ.
