MALAYSIAN motorsport keeps on unearthing new talent ever so often and the latest youngster who very many believe has a great future in motor racing is the very talented Mitchell Cheah.
Mitchell, born on March 29, 1998, is determined to do well on the circuit and make Malaysia proud with his achievements on the track.The name behind Mitchell’s success to date is none other than Axle Motorsport, the company formed by Malaysia’s former Formula One driver Alex Yoong. Since its establishment in 2008, Axle Motorsport has spotted and nurtured many young drivers with the necessary talent like Daim Hishamudin, Wei Ron Tan and Indy 500 winner Alexander Rossi.
“Axle Motorsport is also responsible for driver management, consultations, securing sponsorship and talent development,” said Axle Motorsport founder Alex.
And with Alex’s Formula One pedigree and experience on the F1 circuit, it is a once in a life time opportunity for these young drivers to be groomed, nurtured and polished by one of the country’s top race driver. For the record, Axle Motorsport will be racing in this year’s Asian Formula Renault Series, Formula 4 China Championship, Formula 4 SEA, and ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship.
“At Axle Motorsport, we are determined to bolster and guide young drivers who are coming up through the ranks. There are so many good drivers in Malaysia and with the proper racing management and guidance, I am convinced their talent will not be wasted,” Alex added.
“As a former Formula One driver myself, I am willing to share my experiences and help fellow Malaysians who dream of becoming successful racing drivers. These days it is not easy but in Mitchell’s case, I am thrilled about his determination and commitment during races. I strongly believe he will do well and of course, will make Malaysia proud with his success in the future.”
Meanwhile, Mitchel, 21, is eager to start the season on a high and finish in a respectable position in the upcoming ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship 2019.
Mitchell, who was born in Kuala Lumpur, said: “I will be competing in the ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship this year. Being the only Malaysian and Asian driver in the championship, it will be an extra motivation for me to do well against the European drivers. I am currently preparing myself physically and mentally before the season starts.
“I would like to thank my parents and Axle Motorsport for making this possible for me and for putting their faith and trust in me. I will not take anything for granted. We worked hard to be where we are at now and I am hungry for success. Racing has always been my passion and with this opportunity, I will do my utmost best to be one of the top drivers in the country and the world.”
Mitchell starts his racing campaign on 26th April at Oschersleben, Germany for the three-day first round of the ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship 2019. The Championship which is considered one of the most competitive championships in the world is now in its fourth season, organised by Germany-based sanctioning body ADAC according to the TCR regulations. There will be seven rounds which will take place across Europe with a total of nine drivers from six teams competing in this year’s championship.
