Dream comes true for underprivileged kids
July 30, 2012Arsenal Asia Tour 2012
August 7, 2012KUALA LUMPUR (July 31, 2012): Malaysians have always been passionate when it comes to football and this was evident when they turned up in huge numbers to watch the Malaysian Selection’s double-header against English Premier League giants Arsenal FC and champions Manchester City FC over the last two weeks.
Despite it being the holy month of Ramadan, many football aficionados – 107,000 of them to be exact – were undeterred as they flooded the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil in the colours of their team to catch their heroes in action.
Julian Kam, CEO of ProEvents Group, the exclusive organiser of the EPL clubs’ Far East Tour 2012, described the tour as “impeccable”.
“This was the first time we had the teams down during the fasting month. Our target was reached over the two games as 55,000 spectators flocked to the stadium for the Arsenal match and 52,000 came for the last match against City.
“We have been organising tours in Malaysia for the past 11 years and over this period, Malaysians have never disappointed. We want to give something back to them, so we are already working on bigger things for next year,” said Kam.
Kam was also enthused by this response generated by the Super Gunner contest. The contest, whose winners earned an all-expense-paid trip to Hong Kong to watch Arsenal play Kitchee FC, created a real buzz, drawing in hundreds of participants.
“We had never done a competition on the social media, but I think the Super Gunner was a hit among the fans. The interest it spawned scaled heights beyond our expectations. We promise fans that more stuff like this, or maybe even better ones, will be organised using the social media next time.”
Kam, a licensed FIFA match agent, went on to thank the Malaysian Government, sponsors, as well as the local and international media for their continued support, while insisting that it was a concerted effort that made an event of such magnitude a success.
