November 16, 2019KUALA LUMPUR (14 NOVEMBER 2019): The opening leg of the inaugural Senheng Purple League Corporate (SPLC) 2019 held at the Sports Arena Sentosa last weekend delivered on all fronts as fans were treated to a spectacular “badmintainment” experience.
Not many would have expected that a group of corporate bigwigs and social players could mix it up with former national and state players, but the proof was there for all to see last weekend as Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) putting rank and status aside, played side by side with their subordinates in search of glory for their respective organisations.
Brought to the public by the team who introduced the Purple League and Purple League Junior, this event aims to promote a healthier lifestyle and also act as a platform for the corporate firms to indulge in a healthy dose of competitive badminton.
One of the teams that stood out at the end of the first two days of competition and currently leading Group A is team LionMas. Established in 1993, the LionMas company is one of the leading chain of stores dealing in household electrical appliances and furniture as its core business.
On route to heading Group A, LionMas managed to notch 22 points (games won) with back-to-back victories over redPHOENIX and PENSONIC with matching 11-6 scores. Following close behind is PENSONIC with 15 points.
With the prospect of progressing to the semi-finals scheduled for Sunday morning, LionMas team manager Saw Tze Liang is happy with the performance of his players and remains hopeful they can keep the winning momentum going. “It was a great weekend for us in the first leg of the SPLC2019,” he said.
“We managed to secure two consecutive wins, so congratulations to all the players. I hope we can keep our winning ways going for our remaining group matches and perhaps secure a spot in the semi-finals.”
When asked about the team’s preparation for the upcoming fixtures, Saw, who is also running his own badminton academy in Johor admitted that there were certain areas where the team needs to be fine-tuned.
“During the first leg, I had identified several weaknesses that we need to eradicate. We need to minimise simple mistakes and stick to our game plan especially when facing experienced opponents.
Overall, I think we are in a strong position especially in the men’s and mixed doubles since we have been training consistently at least twice a week,” added Saw.
In Group B, Top Glove and Team AIG dominate with both collecting 22 points and look ready to advance to the semis despite both teams having to face-off in the final group tie on Saturday.
The SPLC2019 continues this weekend at Sports Arena Sentosa where the last group ties will be played on Saturday before the semi-finals on Sunday where the top two teams of Group A and
Group B will face each other with the winners advancing to the final later on the same day to claim bragging rights.
