August 12, 2019KUALA LUMPUR (11 August 2019): The eRacing Grand Prix SEA 2019 is poised for another milestone as the championship steams towards the semi-final round where the top 45 drivers will battle it out to secure their spots in the Grand Finals.
The semi-final round will be held at 3 Damansara Shopping Mall this weekend. The drivers who qualify will be divided into three groups (Red, Blue, and Green) and will be coached by local professional racing drivers including the likes of Adam Khalid, Timothy Yeo, and James Veerapan.
eRacing Grand Prix SEA aims to develop a regional eRacing championship with the objective of transforming virtual racers into real-life motorsport champions, the eRacing Grand Prix SEA which debuted in Hong Kong with a positive impact last the year, is clearly having the same effect in Malaysia with enthusiasts having to thank former Formula 1 driver and Founder of Axle Motorsport Alex Yoong for bringing this championship to our shores.
After the conclusion of the time-trial rounds, Alex is convinced that the championship is going to have a remarkable level of competition among the drivers as it progresses to the semi-finals.
“After observing the time-trials, I am really excited by the talent displayed by the drivers especially those in the top 45. I witnessed some good drivers with exceptional racing skills and I am convinced we are going to have a really good competition,” said Alex.
“Moving forward, we will make sure that the format is a lot more interesting for the competitors by featuring different races or reverse grids.”
Alex urged the competing drivers to be well prepared and do a lot of practice with the simulator as there will be a lot of surprises awaiting them in the semis and the final round of the championship.
“For those who will be racing in the semis, practice on as many different tracks as possible with a variety of cars. Also, getting used to the different types of tyres such as hard, soft, new or worn is essential as we will be throwing all kinds of surprises in the upcoming rounds.” warned Alex.
Meanwhile, Mior Muhammad Hafiz, who set the fastest lap during the time-trial rounds (1:56.945s), is looking forward to the semi-finals and aims to qualify for the final.
“After the conclusion of the time-trial, I have been practicing a lot to prepare myself for the semis. Motorsport has always been my passion. I am determined to do well and prove myself especially when the championship is getting closer to its conclusion. My goal is to be the overall champion and I will work hard towards it,” said Mior.
The 25-year-old driver is also confident that the eRacing Grand Prix will have a positive impact on the e-sports as well as for motorsport industry. “First of all, I would like to congratulate Alex Yoong and Axle Motorsport for introducing this genre of e-sport to Malaysia. As we all know, e-sport is growing and we have so many talented players across the country. With proper exposure and guidance, I believe we can make it at international level and be among the best in the world,” he added.
Only five drivers from each group will progress from this weekend’s semi-finals and stand a chance to race for the ultimate prize in the Grand Finals.
Meanwhile, the eRacing Grand Prix SEA has secured the backing and support of the country’s leading financial institution, Maybank as it’s main sponsor for this inaugural season in Malaysia.
Maybank joins a host of other sponsors who have contributed to make this season a success including Umobile, JD Sports, Thrustmaster, Spritzer, Playstation, Whitebox Simulators, Royal Selangor and Razer.
