May 24, 2019KUALA LUMPUR (16 May 2019): Malaysian race car driver, Mitchell Cheah who has just competed in the first series of the ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship, is determined for an improved showing in the upcoming legs of the championship starting with the next in the Czech Republic.
In the first leg of the championship which took place at Motorsport Arena, Oschersleben last month, Mitchell failed to finish his first race due to technical issues to his car before bouncing back with an improved showing in his second race.
In Race 2, Mitchell who drives for the VW Team Oettinger finished 20 laps of the 3.67km circuit in tenth position clocking in at 32m 44.468s.
Speaking about his display in Germany, Mitchell who is part of Sepang International Circuit’s Driver Development Programme said, “I would like to thank the technical crew who were working hard to make sure that the car was in top condition after having some problems in Race 1.”
“In Race 2, I managed to finish the race in the tenth spot out of 18 participating drivers,” he said.
The first round of the championship saw the 21-year-old driver managing to keep up the pace with the other established drivers throughout Race 2 as he managed to reach as high as the third position before being overtaken later in the race.
He added, “Everything went according to plan at the beginning, but I was not able to maintain the speed and the momentum of the car in the middle of the race including a collision on my rear bumper in the final lap which affected my position as well.”
Racing with a Volkswagen Golf GTI, Mitchell is first Asian driver to compete in this prestigious championship and is eager to focus on improving his performance. He is currently preparing for the second leg of the championship which will be held at Most, Czech Republic from 17 till 19 May 2019.
