M.A.C. FC AND GELOMBANG EDGE CLOSER TO FINAL

June 18, 2013KUALA TERENGGANU (16 JUNE 2013): M.A.C. FC edged Gelombang FC 5-4 in the final of the Red Bull Futsal Tri-Nations 2013 at the State Stadium in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.
Witnessed by Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Said, and State Exco for Youth and Sports, YB Haji Rozi Mamat, the final drew an estimated 5,000 fans that came in full force to support home team Gelombang FC since the start of the tournament.
The champions received the coveted trophy and a mock cheque for RM20,000 from Dato’ Seri Ahmad Said while Gelombang FC went home with RM10,000.
M.A.C. FC scorers were Mohd Shukri Mat Pilus (two goals), Nurnaiim Nangin, Mohamed Zulkhairi Ahmad and Azrisham Mat Soom while Gelombang FC replied through Mohd Shafily Jusoh, Zulkarnain Abdul Majid, Mohd Zaharim Yusof and Mohamad Shamsul Aswadi.
In the third-fourth placing playoff, Indera SC Futsal defeated Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council 6-3. Indera SC pocket RM5,000 and Royal Brunei Armed Forces took home RM2,000.
“I wish to thank Red Bull Malaysia for organising this event in Kuala Terengganu in conjunction with Visit Terengganu Year,” said Dato’ Seri Ahmad Said. “I congratulate M.A.C. FC for winning the title and to Gelombang FC, they should not lose heart.”
Red Bull Malaysia Executive Director Jyn Wee said the support from fans in Kuala Terengganu was overwhelming and the final between both teams was really exciting.
“We are extremely proud to hold the Red Bull Futsal Tri-Nations Cup in Terengganu, and we saw the enthusiasm shown by the fans. It was a great event eventually,” said Wee.
The road to the final for M.A.C. FC and Gelombang FC started on Friday with swashbuckling performances and ended in dramatic fashions. M.A.C. FC outclassed Singapore’s Mountbatten FC 21-0 and followed up with a 9-3 victory over Brunei’s Indera SC Futsal.
Gelombang FC, on the other hand, buried Mountbatten FC ‘A’ 19-1 late on Friday before turning the tables on Royal Brunei, winning 4-1 to reach the final.
“I am proud of my team and how they performed in the final. Though the opponents gave us a good fight, it was our teamwork that helped us edge past them,” said M.A.C. FC team manager Mimi Afzan Afza.
It was also a double celebration for the boys from Shah Alam as Mohammad Azwann Ismail was awarded the Golden Boot award, and skipper Ahmad Faizal was named Most Valuable Player.
