June 13, 2013KUALA LUMPUR (29 MAY 2013): Chelsea Football Club’s fans in Malaysia are all abuzz with excitement for the English Premier League team’s 2013/2014 pre-season tour.
The match between Chelsea FC and the Malaysia XI will be played at the Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday, July 21, and is scheduled to kick-off at 9.45pm.
Tickets priced at RM58, RM88, RM108, RM308, and limited VIP tickets at RM408, will be available exclusively at selected adidas outlets from May 30 until June 2. Public sales will start June 3 onwards via Ticketpro’s telephone hotline, +6(03)7880-7999; online site www.ticketpro.com.my and at Ticketpro’s outlets nationwide.
This year’s summer tour has been made possible once again by the concerted efforts of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and ProEvents International, who have been responsible for bringing all top European teams who have visited Malaysia since 2001.
Chelsea’s match against the Malaysia XI takes place four days after their friendly against Singha All-Star in Bangkok, and before they proceed to Jakarta to conclude their tour with a match against the BNI Indonesia All-Star on July 25, the venue there being the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
Chelsea will bring the Europa League trophy together with their available first team star players including John Terry, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, Demba Ba and Ashley Cole to name a few. They will be in Kuala Lumpur for five days and there will be plenty of opportunities for activities such as an exclusive autograph session.
“We at ProEvents are equally excited with our fourth Chelsea tour, as two years ago we saw so much excitement when Chelsea and the Malaysian Selection played in front of a full capacity crowd of 85,000,” said Julian Kam, Chief Executive Officer of ProEvents, at a press conference today.
“We are very fortunate to be one of the first in the world to get to see the new first team squad in action, not to mention that everyone will be eager to see the new manager taking charge live at the Shah Alam Stadium,” he added.
Also present at the press conference was National Head Coach Datuk K. Rajagobal, and Managing Director of ProEvents International, San Boon Wah.
“It is a weekend match. Not only the Chelsea fans but all football fans, especially the Ultras Malaya, should come and support the Team Harimau,” added Kam, who has been in the world of football business for the past 21 years.
Chelsea enjoyed their previous stays here and they have won lots of fans in Malaysia. The players were shocked to see so many fans greet them at the hotel and at the open training session.
“They have over 800,000 Facebook likes from Malaysia on their official Facebook page. The club is committed to ‘Here To Play, Here To Stay’ in Asia, and in Malaysia they have a permanent football ground at the NPNG Chelsea Blue Pitch at Damansara Damai, where local fans can enjoy playing football and be trained by certified coaches,” added Kam.
The Chelsea-Malaysia XI match is expected to be broadcast worldwide including Malaysia, England, Brazil, France, Portugal, Romania, Russia/CIS/Bulgaria, Serbia & Balkans, Middle East (Al Jazeera), India, United States and Canada, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Datuk Rajagobal said his team is looking forward to playing Chelsea again and they hope to reverse the scoreline in Malaysia’s favour. Chelsea won 2-0 in 2008 and 1-0 in 2011.
“There are always high expectations when we play Premier League clubs, especially Chelsea, as they have a wide fan-base here. It is good to know that they will be bringing their best available first team squad to play against us,” he added.
