A Showcase of Paralympic Spirit and World-Class Karate Skills
Some of the finest martial artists will be in town when Malacca hosts the 19th Asian Senior Karate and 2nd Para-Karate Championships this month.
The prestigious event promises top drawcards from Asia with exceptional displays of skill, technique, and sportsmanship.
Spectacular actions will be the order of the day when the event kicks-off at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here in Ayer Keroh from 21st – 23rd July, 2023.
The stage is set for Asia’s top Karate exponents to exhibit their prowess and compete for supremacy.
As the pinnacle event in this region, fans are assured of top class action by exponents who will compete fiercely in the men’s and women’s categories, vying for top honors in their respective weight divisions.
Over 700 contestants from 28 countries took part in the previous edition held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan last year.
Japan, the powerhouse of Karate, secured top spot with 13 medals, including 8 golds. Jordan and Kazakhstan also demonstrated their prowess claiming a tally of seven and eight medals respectively.
Among the standout stars were Hikaru Ono, Kakeru Nishiyama (Japan), Assel Kanay (Kazakhstan) and Abdel Rahman Almasatfa (Jordan).
This year’s Championships will not be short of excitement, too, for enthusiasts of the sport from around the region.
Karate, with its rich heritage and emphasis on discipline and technique, has captivated audiences worldwide.
Spectators can expect an unforgettable experience as these exponents demonstrate their agility, power, and mental fortitude.
The 2nd Para Karate Championship which runs parallel to the main event will be in the spotlight, too.
This contest will showcase the para-athlete, who has overcome physical challenges to excel in the sport. Their awe-inspiring performances will inspire and showcase the indomitable spirit of determination, resilience, and inclusivity. Datuk Wira Nur Azmi Ahmad, President of Malaysia Karate Federation (MAKAF), expressed his excitement to host the event.
