Comfortable 36-0 win over SCKK puts them in good stead for other challenges ahead
KUALA KANGSAR (1 MARCH 2019): In a display of speed and power, hosts Malay College Kuala Kangsar produced a dazzling performance to open their MCKK Premier 7s campaign with a 36-0 trouncing of Sabah College Kota Kinabalu (SCKK) at MCKK’s Rugby Field, today.
Led by Muhammad Harithshah Kaharudin with a hatrick, MCKK All Blacks crossed the line six times alongside two conversions as a statement of intent to wrest the title they last won in 2013.
Muhammad Danial Iskandar, Adam Danial Mahummar Gaddafi Sorilaut and Luqman Hakim Badrol Hisham contributed the three remaining tries in front of their raucous home support.
MCKK’s head coach, Mohd Romli Saad (wearing a cap) hopes his charges will carry on their display in tomorrow’s match.
Coach, Mohd Romli Saad is feeling the pressure as the weight of the ‘kolet’ from students to alumni, Malay College Old Boys Association (MCOBA) is resting on his shoulders after coming so close last year.
“I am feeling the pressure, from the expectation of the students and even MCOBA who really want this title.
“But I am confident with the boys, 99% with their capabilities, the rest is up to fate. I have been grooming the boys from last year and based on their current form of finishing in the top 4, I feel that they have what it takes to emerge champions,” added Romli.
Other matches today saw SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab (SHOAW) open their campaign in Group A with a 19-0 win over SMK King Edward VII (KEVII).
SM Sultan Abdul Halim (SEMSAH) overcame Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gombak (INTEGOMB) 21-5 in Group B. In Group D, Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) beat SM Sains Pokok Sena (SAINA) 15-10.
Meanwhile in Group E, SM Sains Hulu Selangor (SEMASHUR) defeated SMK King George V (KGV) 19-2. Rounding up the day, Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak (SDAR) overcame SMK Abi (ABI) 10-0 in Group F.
The tournament which is entering its ninth edition will witness 23 local teams and 1 foreign team challenging to claim the NJ Ryan Trophy open its curtains today with the final taking place on Sunday at MCKK’s rugby field.
For the record, SSTMI has won four titles in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017, MCKK (2013), Scots College New Zealand (2014), Hong Kong Sports School (2015) and SMK Sri Mersing in 2018.
