Yew Sin-Ee Yi to Assert Their Dominance in PMM2018

KUALA LUMPUR (11 January 2018): National men’s doubles pair, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi are ready to stake their own claim in the upcoming Perodua Malaysia Masters 2018 (PMM2018) presented by Daihatsu which will be held in the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur Sports City from the 16th to 21st January 2018.

“We will approach this just like any other competitions. Whether it is a teams’ event or individual event, or if it is a small or big tournament, whenever we represent Malaysia, we will give it our best to make our country proud,” said Yew Sin.

The pair is raring to go after missing last year’s edition in Sibu as Yew Sin had to attend to his family matters.

“We all know this year many top players will be participating. So we did not set any targets as we will just focus 100% on each game and take it one at a time. It is important that we play to our highest potential whenever we step on the court,” said the 24-year old.

Nine out of the top ten world ranked men’s doubles pairs will be participating in this year’s PMM. The list includes Danish pairs, Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen (World No. 2) and Mads Conrad-Petersen-Mads Pieler Kolding (No. 6), Chinese pairs, Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen (No. 3) and Liu Cheng-Zhang Nan (No. 4), Chinese Taipei pairs, Lee Yang-Lee Jhe Huei (No. 7) and Chen Hu Ling-Wang Chi-Lin (No. 9) and Japanese internationals Keigo Sonoda-Takeshi Kamura (No. 5).

The World No. 23 pair will be up against either Yoo Yeon Seong-Lim Khim Wah or French internationals, Julien Maio-Bastian Kersaudy – the same pair they beat in the Thailand Masters yesterday – in the preliminary stage of the PMM2018.

It does not get any easier for Yew Sin and Ee Yi as fellow national teammate, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong or World No. 8 Russian pair of Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov awaits them in the second round if they get past the first round.

“It’s not an easy draw for us. We might meet V Shem and Wee Kiong in the second round if we win our first match. Whatever it is, we will give it our best shot,” said Yew Sin.

Both Yew Sin and Ee Yi experienced an unsatisfactory outing the last time they played in the Axiata Arena as they lost the SEA Games final last year.

“It was painful to lose the final playing on our home ground and in front of our fans. I think the pressure from playing in the final got to us. But we have learned from our previous experience,” added the Malacca-born Yew Sin.

A total grand prize of US$350,000 worth of cash awaits the winners of the PMM2018 which was upgraded to a Grade 2 Level 4 BWF World Tour (Super Series) status as of this year.

Tickets are already on sale and are priced from RM18 to RM75 ranging from three different categories (upper, lower, premium) for adults while tickets for children aged 4 to 18 years old will enjoy 50% off adult prices right up till the quarter final stage.
