MBPJ Tigers, Young Guns dominate

Kuala Lumpur (14 April, 2017): Universiti Kuala Lumpur Young Guns and Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya Tigers continue to march in the TNB-Malaysian Junior Hockey League Division One matches today.

Arul Selvaraj’s UniKL showed resilience to come back from Olak-Nurinsafi’s Muhammad Nizam Adha 18th minute penalty corner goal to win 2-1 at the Pandamaran Stadium in Klang while MBPJ Tigers clawed Bukit Jalil Sports School Juniors 7-1 on home turf.

Muhammad Chairil Daniel Rusli equalised for UniKL Young Guns in the 51st minute via a penalty corner and Samsul Alif netted the winner on the hooter from open play.

“The boys showed great fighting spirit coming back from a goal down to register this win. We dominated the match and created many chances but our finishing was still not up to the mark. It was the three points that mattered and it comes as a relief to win an away game,” said Arul.

“We need to focus on the next match against BJSS Thunderbolt which will be very tough. One point from this Sunday’s match will do nicely as we are the underdogs,” added Arul.

TNB Thunderbolt teams – Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School, Bukit Jalil Sports School, Anderson Ipoh and Pahang Sports School return to action this week after completing their tour of duty with the national team in the Asian Schools Under-18 championships in India which concluded two days ago.

“They are very good sides and we need to be at our best when we go up against them. We are facing serious tough matches after our match against Olak-Nurinsafi today,” he added.

The Young Guns lead the table standings with nine points – three clear of MBPJ Tigers, who played their second match of the league today. Muhammad Hilmi Jasman opened scored for BJSS Juniors in the 18th minute from a penalty corner and that was the best from the sports school who must be wandering just where they went wrong and what hit them in the remaining 42 minutes of the game.

MBPJ Tigers goals came through Mohamad Norshahrezan Mat Jusoh, Muhammad Nur Iman, Mahathir Rathuwan, Muhammad Nur Asyraf Ishak, Muhammad Faisol Rozihan, Adam Aiman Mamat and Wan Hazig Hisyamuddin.

In Division 2, USM Junior thrashed MISC-UFL Penang 12-1 and Perlis Young Lions mauled MSS Kedah 9-0 while MSSPP-PHA-USM defeated Stinger 3-1 in Group A fixtures. Perlis Young Lions topped the table standings with nine points having remained unbeaten in three matches.

Terengganu Junior Team sent Anderson PHA reeling to their second defeat in the league by registering a 4-1 victory in Group B and in Group C Malacca Warriors defeated Tunku Besar Secondary School Tampin 4-2 to go top of the table standings on nine points while Malacca High School Young Hurricanes went down 1-3 against Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School Juniors, SMK Dato Bentara Luar triumphed 1-0 over Johor Bahru HA and Felda Juniors edged MSSWP Kuala Lumpur 1-0, thanks to Muhammad Hameran Anuar 38th minute penalty corner.
