April 7, 2015KASHIMA (23 MARCH 2015): Frenz United got off to a brilliant start in the 2015 J.League U16 Challenge with a 4-0 victory over Avispa Fukuoka at the Bokuden Sports Complex in Kashima today.
Building on the momentum after several near misses in the first half, the Black Dragons burst through with a four-goal blitz with goals from Iranian Arash Shamatnezhad (41st and 50th) while Indonesian Dicky Rhomadhona (45th) and Risman Tahir (70th) made it a memorable start for the Malaysians.
Frenz United Malaysia head coach, S. Balachandran, said: “We managed to execute our plans well in this high pressured match with good ball control and did not allow Avispa to come back despite having chances on several occasions.”
“The boys did a brilliant job today and I hope they will continue with this kind of performance in our remaining two matches. It has been a really exciting match today and we hope to go far here.”
Frenz United play Tokyo Verdy tomorrow at Bokuden Sports Complex and Kashima Antlers at Kashima Soccer Stadium.
It was the Japanese side that had the first look at Frenz United goal. Kishi Jinya fired from outside the box in the very second minute which was saved by goalkeeper Adam Zairi while Mizuma Kota also aimed wide off the left post four minutes later.
Frenz United, however, clawed its way back into the game slowly but Iranian Reza Karimi wasted the many chances that came his way. It was only in the second half that the Black Dragons got their act together for this famous win over Avispa.
The J. League U-16 Challenge features teams from all 40 J1 and J2 clubs as well as nine J3 clubs. This tournament gives developing players an important opportunity to participate in competitive matches at a crucial age, and aims to contribute to their development as they prepare for regular league play.
Four teams from across Asia have been invited to participate in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Asia Centre, marking a historic first for the Challenge League in its eighth edition.
The J.League and Asia Centre offers foreign players a chance to interact with their Japanese peers and familiarise themselves with Japanese culture by cultural exchange programmes.
