KAZAKHSTAN STANDS TALL IN THE 19TH ASIAN SENIOR KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Kazakhstan were crowned overall champions of the 19th Asian Senior Karate Championship in Melaka, while Malaysia finished 13th with three bronze medals.
MELAKA (July 23): A wave of electrifying action and sheer determination took centre stage at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) as the 19th Asian Senior Karate Championship and 2nd Asian Para-Karate Championship unfolded, culminating in a spectacle of extraordinary martial prowess.
In a dazzling display of skill, Kazakhstan blazed a trail of glory, rising to the coveted position of overall champions. Japan, last year's titleholders from the championship held in Uzbekistan, put up an awe-inspiring performance but had to settle for the runner-up spot.
With an exceptional haul of three gold, four silver and four bronze medals, Kazakhstan's karate athletes showcased their unyielding determination, leaving spectators in awe of their excellence.
In Uzbekistan last year, Kazakhstan had claimed a respectable third place with two gold, four silver and two bronze medals. This year, their relentless pursuit of perfection propelled them to the championship's summit.
Defending champions Japan, though valiant in their efforts, couldn't replicate their previous triumph, finishing as runners-up with three gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
Amid intense competition, the spirit of sportsmanship united athletes from across Asia. Iran claimed third place with three gold, two silver and seven bronze medals. Jordan secured fourth place with two gold, one silver and three bronze medals, while Hong Kong took fifth with two gold and one bronze.
The closing ceremony was officiated by the Governor of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, who is also Patron of the Malaysian Karate Federation (MAKAF) and an Executive Committee Member of the World Karate Federation (WKF), and who had the honour of presenting awards to the victors.
At the 2nd Asian Para-Karate Championship, Iran emerged as undisputed champions with four gold medals. Kazakhstan finished runners-up with two gold and two silver medals, while Saudi Arabia secured third place with one gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
The national karate squad finished 13th overall with three bronze medals. The women's Kata team captured hearts with a brilliant performance, securing Malaysia's third bronze medal after beating Hong Kong on the championship's final day.
Lovelly Anne Robberth, Naccy Nelly Evvaferra and Niathalia Sherawinnie scored 42.4 points to edge Hong Kong's 41.8. The victory was all the more special as it coincided with Niathalia Sherawinnie's birthday.
The three bronze medals marked an improvement on the previous edition in Uzbekistan, where the national squad won two bronze medals.
With 32 nations and 388 athletes in the fray, the national squad's 13th place reflects their dedication and unwavering spirit on the path to greatness.
National team coach Mohd Norfarhan Nordin praised the women's Kata team, emphasising their maturity and technical finesse at the championship.
"Their extraordinary understanding of Kata's technical aspects is a testament to their dedication and hard work. Their performance has been nothing short of awe-inspiring," he said.
As the championships came to a close, athletes now look ahead to the possibility of representing their nations at the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, raising the stakes for the months ahead.
The 19th Asian Senior Karate Championship and 2nd Asian Para-Karate Championship have left an indelible mark on Melaka's sporting landscape, and these athletes serve as an inspiration for a generation of karate enthusiasts.
