KUALA LUMPUR (9 March 2023): Royal Selangor and Axle Sports have renewed their partnership for eRacing GP, and this season is introducing young simulator racers from around the world to four of Malaysia's best-known circuits.

The virtual competition, Global Edition 11: Malaysian Playground, kicked off on 24 February at the Sepang International Circuit with over 90 sim racers from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Brunei, Australia, India, the United Kingdom and the Philippines competing in four classes.

Round 2, scheduled for 10 March, will see them competing on the Shah Alam Circuit, known fondly to Malaysians as the Batu Tiga Speedway Circuit and once the home of Malaysian motor racing. The 3.5km circuit, located close to the heart of Kuala Lumpur, hosted all kinds of races from superbikes to touring cars, even the legendary Group C race cars in the 1980s. It was sadly demolished in 2003 to make way for a suburban housing project.

Axle Sports Founder and CEO Alex Yoong aims to bring the glory days of the Shah Alam Circuit back to the younger generation through virtual racing.

"Our competitors have raced on virtual tracks around the world, but this year, as a company with roots in Malaysia, we wanted to introduce young people to what was once some of the best racing in our country. Our hope is that we see a lot of drivers of all ages appreciate what has gone before," said Alex Yoong.

The remaining tracks will be revealed just before the last two rounds to maintain the element of surprise, as Global Edition has done in previous seasons. Axle Sports hints that one track could date back over 80 years to the venue of Malaysia's first-ever Grand Prix race.

"We are incredibly proud to be a part of this initiative that educates, nurtures and provides a supportive platform for young talent. We wish all the racers the best of luck!" said Yong Yoon Li, Managing Director of Royal Selangor.

Global Edition 11: Malaysian Playground sees the competition move from RaceRoom Racing Experience to the Assetto Corsa Competizione platform. Rounds 2 and 3 will take place on 10 and 24 March, with the grand final scheduled for 7 April. Participants in the Gold and Silver classes will compete in the Jordan 191, while those in the Bronze and Copper classes will race in the Tatuus FA010.

In the fourth year of the partnership, eRacing GP winners in all categories will receive custom-made trophies sponsored by Royal Selangor.

Royal Selangor has also partnered with Axle Sports for the Endurance Edition, which will see teams competing on some of the world's most popular tracks from 1 April, in races ranging from four to eight hours.
