Dr.KO claim the Biz Link Properties Purple League Corporate 2021/2022 title with an 11-3 win over Senheng in the final at Sports Arena Sentosa, while Oriental Real Estate take third place.

KUALA LUMPUR (21 August 2022): The second edition of the Biz Link Properties Purple League Corporate 2021/2022 (BLPLC) closed its curtains today as Dr.KO showed that they can dominate not only in the boardroom but also on the badminton court, claiming an 11-3 victory over Senheng in the final at Sports Arena Sentosa.

Dr.KO, known for their dominance in the skin industry, took a stranglehold on the final early on when Dhami Tula Ram – Lim Loong Meng breezed past Senheng's Pong Chit Pei – Yong Chee Seng (11-10, 11-10, 11-9) in the men's doubles category. Dr.KO's convincing start was halted in the second match as their powerhouse mixed doubles pair fell to Senheng's stalwart pair Junior Oh Jia Pang – Yap Yee (6-11, 11-10, 8-11, 11-10, 9-11) in a resilient match which lasted 51 minutes.

Dr.KO's Dato' Lim Choon Seng – Lim Choon Keong then extended the lead to an impressive 8-3 with an (11-3, 11-5, 11-4) win over Senheng's Chow Kock Fei – Wong Thian Lai, before Stephanie Fenellang – Tan Chew Ping put the tie beyond Senheng's reach moments later with a smooth (11-7, 11-6, 11-7) victory over Karena Wong – Yap Rui Chen in the women's doubles category.

With an unassailable lead, Dr.KO claimed bragging rights as there was no need for the remaining men's doubles match to be played. Dr.KO walked away with a cool RM50,000 cash prize while Senheng took home a purse of RM25,000 for their efforts.

Dr.KO's player-cum-team manager, Soo Teck Zhi, was in an ecstatic mood after his charges' fine performances in the final.

He said, "Words cannot express how thrilled I am with this victory. I did not expect our team to achieve this feat and I'm grateful to all the players for producing a wonderful display in our glory to success."

"We as a team will not be satisfied and rest on this victory as we aim to continue striving to work harder and return in the next edition to defend our title," added Soo Teck Zhi, who won the 2013 Asian Junior Championships.

Also present at Sports Arena Sentosa was Malaysia Purple League's Chief Operating Officer (COO), Ho Khek Mong, who reiterated the importance of corporate firms' involvement in sports today.

He said, "I hope that through this Biz Link Properties Corporate Purple League platform, many more corporate entities can understand the sport and eventually get more involved with their support and backing. It is also a platform which can provide avenues for retired players to continue their badminton careers."

In the 2pm fixture, the fiery battle for third and fourth place saw Oriental Real Estate emerge victorious over their opponents Top Glove Badminton Club (9-3).

As one of the top teams that stood out at the end of the competition, Oriental Real Estate took the lead in the opening men's doubles match through Kum Yi Fan – Tan Kian An as they easily overcame Lim Jin Feng – Lim Jun Yang (11-7, 11-9, 11-3).

Gan Jing Er – Kho Lai Mai were the saviours for Oriental Real Estate as they thrashed Daphne Ng – Liaw Suk Quan (11-7, 11-7, 11-7) to secure their team third place in the tournament, along with prize money of RM12,500.
