AMPANG JAYA BC AND PETALING BC BOOK THEIR SEMI-FINAL SLOTS AT THE SENHENG REDONE PURPLE LEAGUE PROFESSIONAL 2022

Ampang Jaya BC beat Singapore Badminton Team 13-6 and Petaling BC edged Candra Wijaya BC 14-10 to book their SRPLP 2022 semi-final places.

SHAH ALAM (5 October 2022): The fifth day of the SENHENG redONE Purple League Professional 2022 (SRPLP) produced some exhilarating action at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam, as Ampang Jaya BC and Petaling BC booked their semi-final berths in style.

As expected, heavyweights Ampang Jaya BC maintained their fine form in Group A, though they had to work hard to beat Singapore Badminton Team 13-6 in the opening 4pm fixture.

The pressure was on Ampang Jaya BC after the first match, when Tan Jia Jie lost to Singapore Badminton Team's Marcus Phil Lau Jun Hui 11-8, 5-11, 9-11, 10-11.

The tables turned in the second match, as Ampang Jaya BC's 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medallist Goh Jin Wei secured an important win against Megan Lee Xinyi 9-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, 11-2.

Jin Wei, who recently competed at the 2022 Vietnam Open, was delighted with her match-winning performance but remained humble. "I'm happy that I was able to contribute positively to my team's victory today despite my current health condition. This tournament is extremely competitive, and it would be foolish to underestimate anyone. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ampang Jaya BC for trusting me and allowing me to compete with such a reputable team."

Ampang Jaya BC continued their smashing form in the third match, as Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani-Sabar Karyaman Gutama outclassed Hee Yong Kai-Loh Kean Hean 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7.

Experienced pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai then ended Singapore Badminton Team's hopes of a comeback, beating Donovan Willard-Ho Lo Ee 11-9, 11-6, 11-5 in straight games in the mixed doubles.

The pair said, "We are pleased to have won this match and helped Ampang Jaya BC stay on track to reach its goals in this prestigious tournament."

Ampang Jaya BC sealed their semi-final spot in style when world No. 4 Chou Tien Chen tamed Singapore Badminton Team's Lim Ming Hong 11-8, 11-9, 11-3 in the men's singles.

Chou Tien Chen, a bronze medallist at the 2022 BWF World Championships in Tokyo, was delighted with his team's overall performance. "I'm proud of my team's performance, and I'm happy to see the positive bonding within the team. On top of that, I love playing badminton in this country. Malaysia has some of the best badminton fans in the world, and I'm thankful to the Malaysia Purple League and Ampang Jaya BC for giving me the opportunity to compete in such an honourable tournament."

In the 8pm fixture, Petaling BC secured their place in the semi-finals at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting by beating Candra Wijaya BC 14-10. Both clubs will now wait to see which of the top two teams from Group B they will face, with the Group B standings to be decided tomorrow.

The group stage of the sixth SENHENG redONE Purple League runs from 1 to 6 October at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam, with the Grand Finals at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting on 8 and 9 October.
