April 20, 2018KUALA LUMPUR (17 April 2018): An impressive 7,000 Viper Challenge participants achieved yet another milestone when they conquered the world’s longest multi-purpose tunnel – Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) – in the Viper Tunnel Challenge on Saturday (14 April).
Being the second Viper Challenge of the 2018 series, the Viper Tunnel Challenge was a whole new experience for the participants as they completed all 10 trademark Viper Challenge obstacles covering a distance of 8.4km. Participants were pushed to their limit physically and mentally en route to the finish line in this inaugural edition at SMART.
Just like the Viper Arena Penang last month, participants had to overcome all the obstacles long after the sun had set with the first wave of participants flagged off at 1am. Participants were flagged off in 30-minute intervals until the last wave at 8am on Sunday (15 April).
The Viper Tunnel Challenge, in partnership with Malaysia Highway Authority (LLM), was graced with the presence of Deputy Director General Development of LLM, Ir. Mohd Shuhaimi Hassan and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SMART, Puan Sharifah Alauyah Wan Othman who flagged off the 1.30am wave.
“It is a very good feeling to see the look on the faces of the participants after they had completed the Viper Tunnel Challenge. It gives us much satisfaction and we are determined to come back with bigger and badder obstacles or events in the future,” said Selva Kumar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Original Bootcamp Sdn. Bhd, the brains behind Viper Challenge.
“I would like to thank LLM for providing an opportunity such as this to push the boundaries and to satisfy the cravings of fitness freaks,” added Selva.
Selva believes this Viper Tunnel Challenge will get into the history books for being the first of its kind and hopes that Viper Challenge will set new records in the future.
While it was not considered a race as such, it was vital for all participants to complete all obstacles before they earn the finisher medal and t-shirt. With over 200,000 participants and counting, Viper Challenge – Asia’s Biggest Sporting Event Series – necessitates the need for teamwork, discipline and empathy.
After successfully conquering Kuala Lumpur city centre, the Viper Challenge moves to Sunway Iskandar, Johor for the next leg of the series on May 5 before returning to Kuala Lumpur on Aug 18, 2018 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Forget fear, worry about addiction.
