May 7, 2017Kuala Lumpur (29 April, 2017): Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School Thunderbolt, the 2016 League champions, crushed Bukit Jalil Sports School Juniors 6-0 to climbed to the top of the 2017 TNB-Malaysian Junior Hockey League for the first time.
In other Division One matches involving TNB Thunderbolt teams, BJSS Thunderbolt pulverised Politeknik Malaysia-KPT 9-0, Pahang Hockey Academy Thunderbolt edged University Kuala Lumpur Young Guns 3-0 at the KLHA Stadium and Anderson Thunderbolt scored a 2-1 victory over SMK Dato Bentara Johor Juniors in a high-tension match that saw Johor Juniors’ Muhammad Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin receiving a red card for an off the ball offence.
Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya Tigers, who led the Division One standings briefly, defeated the combination of Olak-Nurinsafi 5-0 at the Pandamaran Stadium in Klang.
Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook and Muhammad Ariff Syafie Ishak netted a double for SSTMI Thunderbolt while Muhammad Amirul Hamizan Azhar (49th) and Shahairul Rusyaidi Abdullah (55th) score a piece.
The 17-year-old Akhimullah, who played for the National Development Squad in the Australia Hockey League, is currently the leading scorer in the MJHL with eight goals.
SSTMI lead the table standings with 13 points – one clear of MBPJ Tigers and two ahead of SMK Dato Bentara Luar Johor Tigers. BJSS Thunderbolts moved up to fourth in the standings with nine points after five matches.
Muhammad Amirul Mirza Rozi nailed a hat-trick for BJSS Thunderbolt against Politeknik Malaysia; Faiz Razin scored a brace whilst Abdul Syafiq Abdul Razak, Arif Sabron, Ahmad Fauzan Ahmad Johari and Muhammad Halif Mohd Fadzly also added their names on the score card.
Anderson Thunderbolt, currently in seventh spot, scored via field goals through Muhammad Syazwan Shafiq (38th minute) and Muhammad Aiman Shahmi (54th). Team captain Muhammad Shafiq Hassan replied for Johor Tigers.
UniKL head coach, A. Arul Selvaraj, said: “Loose marking and lapses in defence cost us a lot against Pahang Hockey Academy. There was just too much running with the ball and losing possession in crucial areas cost us two goals against Pahang Hockey Academy. It is going to be tough to make the last eight now, but we still have two more matches.”
