December 20, 2016KUALA LUMPUR (19 December, 2016): Petaling Jaya BC secured their second successive victory of the SS Purple League (SSPL) 2016/17 season after overcoming a spirited Klang City BC team 13-6 earlier today at Gem in Mall, Cyberjaya.
On the back of a convincing victory over Kepong BC in their first match, Petaling Jaya was confident going into the match. On the other hand, Klang City was looking to bounce back after their demoralising 2-15 defeat at the hands of Ampang Jaya BC the last time they took the court.
And as expected, Petaling Jaya started the better team as their men’s singles player, Satheishtharan easily brushed aside Muhammad Sufiyuddin of Klang City 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-6) in 21 minutes.
National junior shuttler, Thinaah Muralitharan could not soften the blow for Klang City as she went down 1-3 (11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 9-11) against a more experienced Chinese international, Deng Xuan in their women’s singles match.
Despite Petaling Jaya’s strong start, Klang City was offered a lifeline as their men’s doubles pair of Low Hang Yee and Yang Po Han managed to beat Petaling Jaya’s Jagdish Singh and Nipitphon Phuangphuapet 3-1 (11-4, 10-11, 11-6, 8-7). The latter pair was sluggish in their performance as they clearly lack the chemistry.
However, Petaling Jaya secured the win in the mixed doubles’ category. Their mixed pair of Thai national player, Bodin Issara and Indian international, Prajaktha Sawant beat Klang City’s Chin Kah Mun and Hoo Pang Ron 3-1 (11-9, 10-11, 11-8, 9-3).
Petaling Jaya heaped more misery on Klang City as Goh Giap Chin made light weight of Chin Wai Kin in the second men’s singles match of the evening, winning 3-1 (11-10, 11-3, 10-11, 11-1).
“Two consecutive victories is a good result. We are on track to qualify for stage 2. Our squad is looking in good shape and that with some of our key players yet to play. Right now our aim is to be among the top 3 come the end of stage 1,” said Petaling Jaya’s team manager, Yeoh Kay Lun.
“We tweaked our line-up a little bit today. As we are still missing Woon Khe Wei who is still in Dubai, we decided to play Bodin in the mixed double’s category this time around. This is because we wanted to strengthen our line-up in the mixed doubles match. Despite the changes, I think we performed well apart from the men’s doubles pair who played today as they still lack the chemistry as partners,” added Kay Lun.
