August 13, 2016Kuala Lumpur (10 August, 2016): Blue Warriors took the first step towards a shot at the 2016 TNB Malaysian Hockey League Women’s Division title with a 4-0 win over Politeknik Malaysia at the Tun Razak Hockey Stadium in Kuala Lumpur today.
The Royal Malaysian Police outfit, buoyed by the presence of national senior team goalkeeper Farah Ayuni Yahya who is undergoing a police inspector course, played its first league game today.
Blue Warriors led 2-0 by the second quarter with goals from Norazlin Sumantri (11th) and Hanis Nadiah Onn (19th) before Angela anak Kais added the third in the 49th minute via a field goal and Norazlin returned three minutes later to cap a fine performance by the cops for her second goal of the day.
As for Politeknik Malaysia, it was their second straight defeat in seven days having lost 1-3 against Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) in the league’s opening game last week.
Blue Warriors coach, Zulkhairi Ariffin, said it was a good start to their campaign in the league but his only desire is to have all 16 players attend training and be available for matches.
“We are certainly not at our full potential at this moment. Azuni is only available on match days but close to eight players are on duty in various operations. So we have always been training without a full team,” said Zulkhairi.
“It is our first game and I am satisfied with the performance of the players. There had many chances to score more goals but missed. This is something that needs attention and I hope to have those players not here today available for the next match,” he said.
The cops will return on Sunday to face ATM Pernama at the same venue.
