May 29, 2016KUALA LUMPUR (May 28th, 2016): Perak clinched third spot at the 2016 TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup after edging Malacca 2-1 in their Division One 3rd-4th Placing match at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
In the Division Two 3rd-4th Placing match, Armed Forces beat Kelantan 3-1.
Perak’s Mohamad Zulhamizan Awang Abas put Perak ahead in the 18th minute through a field goal while Hafifihafiz Hanafi added their second in the 49th minute.
Malacca equalised almost immediately through a Muhammad Nur Asyraf Ishak penalty corner but failed to get a second to level the match and force a shootout.
K. Yogeswaran praised his squad for the result and sees Perak’s performance today as their best in the tournament.
“The differance today was that my boys played to their true potential. They had a tough semi-final match on yesterday (Friday) against Police so I am grateful to them for rising to the occasion,” said Yogeswaran also revealed that they achieved their target coming into the tournament.
Yogeswaran singled out goalkeeper Mohammad Fitri Abd Aziz as his man of the match, after he pulled off several brave saves during the match.
“He stood up when we needed him at the back and he pulled off some great saves at the end to keep Malacca out.”
In the men’s 5th-6th Placing match, Kuala Lumpur clinched fifth spot with a 5-3 win despite a hat-trick from Negeri Sembilan’s Muhd Ikwan Ishak.
