October 15, 2012PETALING JAYA (24 SEPTEMBER 2012)– THEY came determined, and keeping to their mettle, CIMB-Youth Football Academy pulled off a sterling performance at the inaugural 1MCC-Hong Leong Yamaha Under-14 finals at City Council football stadium in Petaling Jaya.
Sunday night’s 2-1 victory over PKNS FC played out before hundreds of spectators, added another trophy to CIMB-YFA’s silverware cabinet following their singular goal victory over APS Bintang Biru (Penang) in the 1MCC-Hong Leong Yamaha Under-12 finals in May
At kickoff, the Academy’s teenagers’ determination was clearly evident when goal poacher Kogileswaran Raja Mohan got his name on the score sheet as early as the 2nd minute.
Pouncing on a looseball, Kogileswaran made his way across the halfline leaving midfielders and defenders shocked in awe with his solo performance.
With only PKNS FC goalkeeper Muhamad Adam Harith Zulkarnaen to beat, Kogileswaran swayed just metres outside the box and made no mistake with his pile driving right footer into the back of the net.
The match leaders continued their relentless assault on the opponents, but failed to find a second goal until the halftime whistle was blown.
Taking to the field after the halftime break, CIMB-Youth Football Academy continued their frontline assault, and unfortunately luck was not on their side.
A second goal was almost recorded by the match leaders in the 67th minute but the crossbar denied Mohd Fakhrul Aiman Md Nors’ name from being included in the score list.
It would have been a another singular goal victory but a lapse of judgement in the final quarter saw the Academy boys having a freekick awarded against them outside their box.
Muhammad Fazrul Fahriz Zeky went up to take the shot, and little did he realise his long distance effort would go unrewarded.
What seemed like a tame shot was misjudged by Academy keeper, Muhamad Farizal Abd Mutalib who palmed the ball behind him into the net.
With 12 minutes left on the clock and the score tied at 1-1, both teams stepped up strikes and counterstrikes. The match went into extra time for the winners to be decided.
Fariq Ashraf Rohaizan brought the ball down the right flank and much to the amazement of those present, keeper Adam included, took the shot from a difficult angle landing it behind the keeper in the net.
The winners were aptly crowned CIMB-YFA who played a disciplined and tactically composed game chequing their opponents on all fronts.
Their determination and skills saw them take home the challenge trophy plus RM10,000 in cash and kind.
There was more joy for the champions when frontliner Kogileswaran was awared Top Scorer netting 18 goals during the tournament.
Second placed PKNS FC, returned with RM5,000 and gifts in kind. In the third place decider, losing semi-finalists Permata Lestari defeated Perkasa 2-0 with goals from Saiful Amirul (4th minute) and Muhamad Syahrul Aizat (40th min). Their victory enabled them to walk away with RM1500 and trophy.
With the curtains coming down on this year’s Under-14 finals, the 1MCC-Hong Leong Yamaha football league will resume with the Under-16 playoffs beginning in October.
