Be a Super Gunner Challenge
June 27, 2012Host Malaysia to field two teams in the 4th Yamaha Asean Cup
July 10, 2012KUALA LUMPUR (July 4, 2012): “If you don’t shoot, you can’t score.” With this in mind, Abdul Hakeem Aiman Affandi gave it a shot and was rewarded when he was announced as one of the winners of ProEvents’ Super Gunner Challenge.
“I had been dreaming about this moment ever since I started supporting Arsenal FC 12 years ago. I had always wanted to meet the players, so when I learnt about this contest, I jumped at the chance. I must thank ProEvents for organising something like this, which has given all Gooners in Malaysia an opportunity to meet their idols,” said Abdul Hakeem.
The 24-year-old lawyer, who’s an avid fan of hotshot striker Robin Van Persie, added that when he saw all the videos which had been submitted by fellow Gunners, most of them posed with their Arsenal merchandise. He then decided to do something different.
“I don’t have that many Arsenal FC collectibles or merchandise. But I still wanted to show how much of a diehard fan I was. I did something I thought was the true meaning of a Super Gunner, which is to be willing to do anything for the club,” said Affandi, whose 15-second clip shows him dressed up as an Arsenal superhero, fending off “criminals” who tried to get their hands on his ticket for the Arsenal FC vs Malaysian XI match at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil on July 24.
Not only has Affandi earned himself the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet his favourite Arsenal players, he has also won VIP Hospitality tickets to watch the team play here as well as a all-expense paid trip to Hong Kong, where he will watch Arsenal play Kitchee FC from the stadium’s VIP Hospitality suite.
And that’s not all.
Affandi and the other winner of the second round of the Super Gunner Challenge, Anis Adiba Othman, also won themselves a 4D/3N stay at a five-star hotel in Hong Kong as well as HK$5,000 in cash.
Anis, 23, was ecstatic upon learning that she’d finally be able to meet her football heroes.
“I can’t wait to greet (Thomas) Rosicky and (Theo) Walcott here. All this time I’ve been either watching them on the telly or from the stadium stands. I’ve been supporting them since 2008 and saw them in the flash for the first time when they played Malaysia last year. No money can buy you prizes of this nature. Everything seems so surreal,” said Anis, who will be flying to Hong Kong for the first time.
The winners of the contest’s first round were Fatin Shafira and Zafirah Zakaria.
Julian Kam, chief executive officer of ProEvents Group – the exclusive organiser of Arsenal FC’s Far East Tour, said more contests would be organised in the future following “the overwhelming response the Super Gunner had generated”.
“We knew there were many diehard Arsenal fans in Malaysia and this contest showed that they were willing to go great lengths to meet their idols. ProEvents is glad to have been able to provide a platform for Gunners to realise their dreams. There will be more opportunities next time for fans to get such money-can’t-buy experiences,” said Kam.
Tickets for the match are priced at RM58, RM68, RM108 and limited VIP tickets at RM388. Tickets are available at all Ticketpro outlets nationwide, Ticketpro hotline 03-7880-7999 and www.ticketpro.com.my.
