August 13, 2025
Malaysia marked a historic milestone today with the groundbreaking of the Olympic House, the future headquarters of the Olympic Council of Malaysia. Located at the entrance of Bukit Jalil Sports City, this project reaffirms Malaysia’s leadership in sports development, sustainability, and national unity. The ceremony was officiated by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Youth and Sports Minister YB Hannah Yeoh, and OCM President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria. The event was also attended by many other sports administrators including from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) “This Olympic House is not made out of cement and bricks. It is a home of dreams, for any young Malaysian who dares and believes that standing on the podium of Olympic success is within reach,” said the Prime Minister. He emphasised that the facility must serve not only as a hub for administration, but as a space that brings Malaysians together through the unifying force of sport.
Designed and developed by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), the master developer of the Kuala Lumpur Sports Complex, the Olympic House will span 5.38 acres with a gross floor area of 140,973 square feet. Located at the heart of the nation’s sporting ecosystem, the new headquarters will bring together 58 national sports associations under one roof to foster closer collaboration and enhance governance in sports management. The purpose-built facility will feature modern amenities including an auditorium, resource centre, gymnasium, museum, gallery, café, surau, and more.
Tan Sri Norza Zakaria shared the vision behind the initiative. “This is not merely the construction of a building. It is the establishment of a home that will preserve our history, serve our athletes, and inspire generations. It will be Malaysia’s first green energy sports headquarters, designed with people and planet in mind.”
The design reflects strong environmental stewardship. The building will feature solar-powered signage, smart lighting, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation, and low-energy fixtures. More than 26 percent of the site will be allocated to green space with native vegetation and breathable surfaces that allow water to filter back into the ground. Walkability and connectivity to public transport are integral to the design, which also includes EV charging stations and eco-friendly parking areas.
The Olympic House will replace the current Wisma OCM, which was built in 1991 near Stadium Merdeka. With the emergence of Bukit Jalil as the nation’s premier sports hub, this relocation places the Olympic Council within immediate reach of Malaysia’s flagship venues including the National Stadium and Axiata Arena. The move is in line with OCM’s ambition to elevate elite athlete development and operational efficiency in preparation for future regional and international events.
Minister YB Hannah Yeoh praised the collaboration as a meaningful step forward. “The Olympic House is more than a facility, it reflects our belief in what sport can do for a nation. It will be a welcoming space where athletes find support, stories are remembered, and young Malaysians are inspired to dream bigger through the power of sport.”
