MCKK off to a Flying Start

KUALA KANGSAR (23 February 2018): Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) got off to a positive start in the MCKK Premier 7s 2018 with a convincing 28-0 win over Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abi (SMK Abi) in their Group C match earlier today.

Muhammad Syazani Suhaimi gave the hosts a 5-0 lead from a try before Ahmad Alif Mhd Zaini made it 7-0 through the subsequent conversion. Muhd Harith Shah Kaharuddin and Ferhan Aqil Feisal Edzman then extended the score line through their respective tries as MCKK head into the break with a 17-0 lead.

MCKK’s dominating display continued in the second half and just before the end, Muhd Harith put the result beyond reach through a try before Ahmad Alif added another conversion to end the match 28-0 and ensure they sit top of Group C with 3 points.

“I am extremely pleased with my boys after our first victory despite time not being on our side as we are also in the midst of preparation for a 15s rugby tournament taking place next week,” said Mohd Romli Saad, coach of MCKK.

“In the first half the players performed as planned however, things did not go our way in the second half. We will work on our weaknesses from today’s match and hope to improve our performance especially when going up against greater opponents tomorrow,” said Romli.

He added, that MCKK will be wary of their other opponents in Group C, Sekolah Menengah Sains Tunku Jaafar (STJ) and Singapore’s Australian International School (AIS), and will ensure they do not take their matches lightly when they go head-to-head tomorrow.

In the other matches played today, saw Group A’s MRSM Kuala Terengganu (MRSMKT) opened their campaign with a 14-10 win over Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Haji Othman Abdul Wahab (SHOAW) while Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Mahmud (SESMA) cruised to a 28-10 victory over Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abdul Halim in their Group B match.

Kedah’s Sekolah Menengah Sains Pokok Sena (SAINA) edged Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King Edwards VII (KEVII) 12-10 in Group D as Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King George V (KGV) thumped Sekolah Menengah Sultan Yahya Petra 1 (SMYP1) 14-5 in their Group E match before Group F’s Royal Military College produced a brilliant display to earn 3 points with a 28-15 victory over Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR).
