Sportswear brand Kappa sponsors Malaysian senior men and women teams
Kuala Lumpur (13 October, 2016): The allure of the QNET 4th Asian Champions Trophy has been too great having enticed several more ‘suitable investors’ for Asia’s premier hockey tournament in Kuantan.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Genting Malaysia and Waz Lian Group of Companies have joined the ranks as sponsor partners for the QNET 4th Asian Men’s Champions Trophy 2016.
TNB have pledged RM300,000 towards the QNET Asian Champions Trophy held from Oct 20-30 at the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium in Kuantan while Genting Malaysia and Waz Lian Group of Companies have come forward to support in the form of sponsorship deals of RM50,000 respectively.
Waz Lian Group of Companies is among the top conglomerates in Malaysia, specialising in real estate, tourism and electrical energy.
Global Direct Selling Company, QNET, however, is the title sponsor for the fourth edition of the Asian Champions Trophy 2016. QNET has pledged a sponsorship of RM500,000 towards the tournament, which for the first time, have a title sponsor since its inception six years ago.
Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) President, Dato’ Sri Subahan Kamal, said the participation of TNB, Genting Malaysia and Waz Lian Group in the QNET 4th Asian Champions Trophy has given the tournament a tremendous boost and MHC, as host of the tournament for the first time, is indeed grateful for their strong support.
“We are extremely excited with more sponsors coming on board for Asia’s elite hockey tournament and MHC is confident fans will get to witness high quality of performance from participating teams,” said Dato’ Sri Subahan, adding that the sport has grown in stature with a tremendous base of fans.
The MHC president also disclosed that Kappa, an Italian sportswear brand, have pledged RM700,000 in sponsorship towards the national senior men and women teams for two years.
The QNET 4th Asian Men’s Champions Trophy features the Asian Games top six teams competing in a round-robin format with the participations of Pakistan, India, Malaysia, China, Japan and Korea.
Pakistan and India have so far been the most successful teams in Asian Hockey Champions Trophy with Pakistan bringing home the trophy in both 2012 and 2013, while India was the inaugural winner in 2011. The Malaysians finished third in the last three editions.
The tournament was first held in Ordos, China in 2011 followed by Doha, Qatar (2012) and Kakamigahara, Japan in 2013.
The National senior team, coached by Stephen van Huizen, returned on Tuesday from Perth after competing in the Australian Hockey League where they finished sixth out of 12 teams. The Malaysians will take on Pakistan in the opening match of the QNET Asian Champions Trophy on Oct 20 while India goes into action against Japan in the second match.
This would be the first edition of the tournament since it was included as the third continental ranking event from Asia by the FIH earlier this year.
